iMessage messages do not appear on phone bills as they use an internet connection to send and receive messages, rather than a cellular network. iMessages are free to send and receive, but they do use data, so if a user does not have an unlimited data plan, they may see an increase in their data usage. However, regular SMS/MMS messages that do use the cellular network will show up on the phone bill.
